Around the World
Renault hasn’t officially confirmed that the Clio Williams will be made available in a new version in 2014 but rumours from a reliable source assure that the car will definitely become available and will benefit from the experience that Renault has gained by participating in F1 races. The Renault Clio Williams is actually seen as being part of a larger programme through which the carmaker is trying to apply the technology used for its racing cars to the road cars that wear its name.
The well known carmaker Toyota is currently forced to call back 7.4 million of the models that were sold worldwide. 138,000 of those cars were actually bought by UK residents, so if you own a Toyota you should find out if you are in the category of owners affected by the electric window switches problem that has caused the recall. Fortunately in the UK only four Toyota models are known to be affected. In addition, not all the units of those models are targeted by the recall. If you own a Yaris, an Auris, a RAV4 or a Corolla you will have to make sure you benefit from the recall only if you know that the car was produced sometime between September 2006 and the last month of 2008.
Nowadays, carmakers are trying to build vehicles that are as environmentally friendly as possible. Their efforts have led to cars like the Citroen DS5 Hybrid4 that has recently become even more environmentally friendly. That’s because it has suffered some technical improvements as well as a few updates that target the management software used for controlling the hybrid powertrain of the car.
The new Enzo is in the making and Ferrari is finally willing to reveal one by one the new features that will make this car as stunning as its predecessor. The carmaker has decided to feed our curiosity by releasing some pictures of the engine bay. If you didn’t know, the new Enzo is also known as the F150 and is going to be based on a drivetrain that Ferrari has chosen to call “HY-KERS”. That’s because this is the first hybrid drivetrain of the carmaker that has always impressed us with powerful engines. This time the key to success is based on a V12 petrol engine that the carmaker has decided to pair with an electric motor that will be placed in the rear area. The result should be ready for the Beijing Motor Show that’s scheduled to take place in April.
After analyzing the September UK car sales, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has reached the conclusion that the Ford Fiesta is still the best selling car in the UK. Apparently only in September 18,651 units of this car were sold all across the UK. Apparently the supermini managed to preserve its popularity as the “62” registration started becoming part of number plates.
According to the ABI which stands for the Association of British Insurance, the “youngsters” that plan on getting a new driver’s license may have to accumulate a year of driving experience before taking any kind of driving test and gaining a driver’s license.
The Volkswagen R-Line is ready to start conquering the UK market with brand new 18-inch alloys and a sportier look. This R-Line trim is the newest addition to the already impressive range of Volkswagen Tiguan available on the UK market.
JLR has finally confirmed its EV plans for the Range Rover that’s expected to soon become available on the market gifted with plug-in hybrid technology. These are all details that were revealed by the Jaguar Land Rover engineer who is in charge of hybrid technology development: Peter Richings. This chief engineer also felt the need to mention that these EV plans target more than one car, so the Range Rover is just the most logical first target and not the only one. After all, it’s the top car the one that sets the tone for the rest of the line-up.
The Skoda Rapid was revealed like many other new cars during the Paris Motor Show and is expected on the UK car market by the end of the year as a vehicle capable of challenging the German Volkswagen Golf and the Ford Focus. After all it’s based on the Volkswagen Polo platform that was wisely stretched and packaged so that it makes available a generous 550-litre boot.
